Oman E-Invoicing Guide

Oman E-Invoicing for SMEs

If you run a small company, shop, restaurant, workshop, consultancy or other SME, this is the practical place to start.

First: do not panic about the technology

Fawtara involves XML, Peppol, PINT-OM and accredited service providers, but a normal business owner should not operate those technologies manually.

If you use handwritten or Word invoices

Once your business is in scope, you need an electronic solution that creates the prescribed structured invoice and sends it through the required process.

If you use Excel

Excel may remain useful for reports or imports, but an ordinary spreadsheet alone does not create the prescribed XML e-invoice.

If you use accounting software

Do not automatically replace it. OTA says ERP systems may be retained depending on the arrangement with the accredited service provider.

If you use POS software

Retail and restaurant businesses should pay special attention to B2C invoice handling, separate invoice reporting and QR requirements.

If you issue only a few invoices

Invoice volume may affect the best commercial package, but compliance is driven by your rollout and tax rules, not simply invoice count.

Your software should make Fawtara almost invisible

For the user: select customer, add items, review VAT, press Issue. The software should handle UUID, XML, PINT-OM, validation, QR where applicable and provider communication in the background.

Before choosing software, ask

  1. Does it support Oman Fawtara/PINT-OM?
  2. How does it connect to an OTA-accredited provider?
  3. Does it support B2B and B2C?
  4. Does it generate B2C QR automatically?
  5. Does it support credit/debit notes?
  6. Does it support self-billing/imports if needed?
  7. Can we export all data?
  8. Who keeps the archive and backups?
  9. What happens if an invoice is rejected?
  10. What are the monthly and transaction costs?
