Can I Continue Using Excel for Invoices?

Excel can remain useful for analysis and records, but a normal standalone spreadsheet does not by itself create and exchange the prescribed Fawtara e-invoice.

Before your rollout

If your business is not yet in the current or a previous Fawtara rollout, OTA says VAT-registered taxpayers can continue their existing mechanism as long as invoices remain compliant with VAT laws and regulations.

Once Fawtara applies

Invoices must be issued electronically using the prescribed structured format. OTA's June 2026 FAQ states XML is the mandatory structured format.

Simple answer: do not plan on ordinary Excel files alone as your Fawtara solution.
