Oman Business Guide

What is Fawtara?

Fawtara is Oman’s national e-invoicing initiative. It changes an invoice from being only a paper or PDF document into structured data that business systems can exchange electronically.

The simple explanation

You will still create an invoice in familiar software. Behind the screen, the software prepares the invoice in the required structured format and passes it through the approved e-invoicing network.

Think of it this way: a PDF is mainly designed for a person to read. A structured e-invoice is designed so another computer system can understand the same invoice automatically.

Who runs Fawtara?

The Oman Tax Authority (OTA) is responsible for the national e-invoicing programme and its phased implementation.

Do I need to understand the technology?

No. A normal business owner should focus on correct invoice data and a compliant business process. Terms such as XML, PINT-OM and Peppol are mainly handled by your software and service provider.
